Jet Airways will connect Raipur with Hyderabad and Mumbai with a new flight scheduled to be operated from October 31.
According to company officials, necessary preparations have been completed to start the new service between Raipur and Mumbai via Hyderabad. The service will commence from October 31, the officials said.
The Jet Airways flight 9W 7017 will take off from Mumbai at 10.15 am and will land in Hyderabad at 11.30 am. It will depart from Hyderabad at 12.05 pm to land in Raipur at 1.10 pm.
Similarly, flight 9W 7018 will take off from Raipur at 1.40 pm; land in Hyderabad at 2.45 pm and depart at 3.20 pm. The flight will land in Mumbai at 4.40 pm.

Delay leaves 130 flyers stranded at airport for 10 hrs

Mumbai: It was a long wait for passengers booked on Jet Airways' international flight to Johannesburg as it was delayed by more than 10 hours from Mumbai on Sunday. The passengers were stranded at Mumbai airport for a few hours before the airline provided them with accommodation and other facilities.
Jet Airways flight 9W 242 to Johannesburg was scheduled to leave Mumbai at 2.05 am. However, the flight was delayed due to what the airline called "operational reasons." As many as 130 passengers on board, who had checked in at the airport around 11 pm, were left wondering about the reason for the long delay. After a few hours, the airline staff provided passengers with hotel accommodation. The flight finally took off at 12.11 pm from Mumbai.

Pvt airlines told to compensate consumer

Bangalore: The III Additional Consumers Disputes Redressal Forum has directed a private airline to pay Rs 10,000 as compensation to an aggrieved passenger.
Anitha Srinivasan had purchased three tickets for herself and her two children from Bangalore to Delhi on Go-Air by paying Rs 17,778. On arrival at the airport they were told that the flight had been cancelled due to bird hit. They bought tickets on Indigo Airlines to reach Delhi and got to know from other passengers that Go-Air had accommodated them free on that flight. The latter had refused a similar request by Anitha. The Forum also ordered repayment of the ticket fare.

AI ordered to compensate flier for deficiency in service

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered Air India to pay Rs 10,000 to a passenger for causing mental agony, inconvenience and hardship to the latter by making him to check out from one of its flights at New Delhi instead of Ahmedabad.
The passenger has been identified as Ashok Thakkar, a resident of Vastrapur area in Ahmedabad.
Thakkar had booked a ticket from New York to Ahmedabad in one of Air India’s flights in March 1996. He had a confirmed ticket to check out at Ahmedabad but was made to check out at the New Delhi airport and from there he was required to take a connecting flight.
Thakkar had demanded compensation from Air India on the ground of deficiency in the service. He had contended that because of the deficiency in the service of Air India, he had to pay $ 123 for excess luggage as the connecting flight of Indian Airlines had a luggage capacity of 25 kg as against AI’s 60 kg.

Canada wants crackdown on Indian immigration consultant

Jalandhar: Sandeep Ohri is a dashing 42-year-old who revels in zipping through the traffic chaos in his gleaming Mercedes, passing billboards touting him as the leading immigration consultant in Punjab state.
But Canadian officials see someone else: an extraordinarily brazen and successful scam artist in an industry rife with deceptive swindlers willing to provide applicants with a litany of sham documents — everything from fake airline tickets and doctored bank statements to forged letters from Canadian-based funeral homes.
Of the nearly 500 visa applications formally rejected this year, 228 come from Ohri and his firm, OGIC Immigration Consultants.
“This guy has a perfect record,” says David Manicom, head of the immigration section at the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi — not one of Ohri’s clients has been approved for a travel visa.
Over coffee last week Ohri was unrepentant.
He refused to acknowledge he did anything wrong by helping to file visa applications he knew contained fake bank statements.
“What have I done?” Ohri said. “I am just an adviser, a consultant.”
The 42-year-old father of two has been in business for 12 years and claims to have helped hundreds of prospective students and skilled workers secure travel visas to Canada and other western countries.
While Canada receives more immigrants from India than any other country, there are growing concerns within the Canadian mission here that local lawmakers and police are refusing to pursue criminal cases against the likes of Ohri.
For many immigration consultants here, business has never been better. They operate in a state with long-standing ties to Canada, albeit those ties are growing strained, some Canadian diplomats say, with the growing frequency of travel requests supported by fraudulent documents.
The six visa-section staff who work at Canada’s mission in Chandigarh, Punjab’s capital, review 40,000 visa applications a year from students, family members and prospective immigrants. While official statistics aren’t available, one senior Canadian diplomat estimated at least a quarter of those applications are refused because of fraud.

Andhra fails to acquire land for Gannavaram airport

Vijayawada: Proposal for the development of Gannavaram airport is pending for a long time due to slow progress of the land acquisition.
The Gannavaram airport is set in 536 acres of land, about 20 km from Vijayawada city. The government has made proposals to acquire another 465 acres of land for the construction of the international terminal building, extension of runway, provision of approach roads for entry and exit of vehicles, construction of a new tower and enhancing amenities like parking for the passengers.
The Airports Authority of India is ready to invest Rs 100 crore to develop the airport because of its potentiality. So far, only two airlines operate to the airport, each one from Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Proposals have been made for the construction of an airport terminal with international standards, which include restaurant, reading hall, shopping complex, spacious corridors and other recreation facilities.
The Airports Authority of India and the state government signed an MoU in 2007 in which the state government agreed to give land to the AAI free of cost for development.
But, the local farmers are not coming forward to sell their land to the government because the price offered by the government is not satisfactory. As per the open market value, each acre costs between Rs 30 lakh to Rs 40 lakh in Gannavaram mandal.
But, the government rate is very low compared to the open market price.

Paramount’s plan to import jets rejected

New Delhi: The civil aviation ministry has rejected Paramount Airways application seeking import of at least five Bombardier jets ahead of a hearing of a writ petition filed by the airline in Madras High Court challenging the directorate general of civil aviation's (DGCA) decision to suspend its permit to operate scheduled air transport service in the country.
“The airline's permit has been suspended so it cannot be allowed to import aircraft. In an aircraft acquisition committee (AAC) meeting this week we rejected their proposal," a senior official in the ministry of civil aviation told FE.
The aviation sector regulator DGCA had in July suspended the scheduled operators permit issued to Paramount Airways as the airline failed to meet the necessary requirements under Aircraft Rules. Following this the Madurai-based carrier filed a writ petition in Madras High Court challenging the DGCA order.
“The case is posted for further hearing in Madras high Court on Monday,” industry sources said.

India takes first steps towards own regional aircraft

Bangalore: India’s very own Regional Transport Aircraft, or RTA, is taking shape. This is notwithstanding the criticism heaped on the indigenous small passenger aircraft programmes like Saras and Hansa.
An RTA is said to be more suitable for a place like India where within a radius of 300-400 km of a big city you have another one.
The Rs 3,000-4,000 crore project was set-in motion a month earlier by the Defense Research and Development Organisation. National Aeronautics Limited is the nodal agency for the design of the aircraft. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited is expected to produce it.
The project is expected to give a shot in the arm to the aviation sector in the country. RTA is more suitable to reach places within a 500-km radius. The aircraft would have a range of 600 km to 800 km. HAL and the NAL have not decided on many aspects of the aircraft such as work share, funding and even whether the aircraft will have a turbo-prop or turbo jet engine. NAL had held discussions with Pratt & Whitney (Canada) and General Electric (US) for an engine.
Quest Global, the outsourced manufacturing company, is now in the design team for RTA. It hopes to be involved in the manufacturing too.
“It is the point-to-point connecting ability of RTAs that could make it popular today, and could hold sway in future too,” said Aravind Melligeri, Chairman & Co-founder of Quest Global. The hub-and-spoke model is not favoured by many who do not want to get on or off aircrafts to reach their destination.
About 400 of these regional jets are expected to be manufactured. Of these, 200 will go to the armed forces.
The CSIR-funded project draws from the experience derived from developing the Saras and the Hansa.
But, is there a market big enough for the aircraft to spend that much money? “There is a market for it in India. The next phase of growth in the aviation industry would be tier-II and tier-III cities,” said Amber Dubey, director, KPMG. The RTA would also cater to the needs of different sectors such as tourism, SEZs, ports, and cargo hubs. Such places may not have the critical mass to justify a B-737 or A-320. With a runway requirement of around 900m, the RTA can help revive many of the old unused airstrips in the country,” added Dubey.
